Bal is one of the industry’s most experienced investors. From building SevenCapital into one of the largest UK developers, to acquiring Cynergy – a £3.6bn loan book bank. His depth of experience in the residential, commercial and financial markets provides Cohort with the platform to assess and underwrite the most complex and demanding real estate deals.

After working for Glencore in Spain, Matt joined a debt advisory practice which was part of St James’s Place Wealth Management, based in Mayfair. Matt placed and advised on over £1bn of senior and mezzanine corporate and real estate debt. He joined SevenCapital to run the build-to-rent financing division but after identifying a gap in the short-term and development finance space, he partnered with Bal to build the business. Matt has an MBA from Imperial College.

Damien has over 20 years’ experience in residential real estate. He has been instrumental in group acquisitions and deliveries, specifically under SevenCapital. He plays a vital role in underwriting Cohort’s development finance offer, by appraising and valuing prospective development loans and sites.

With over 10 years of experience, Robert leads the management and raising initiatives with institutional investors.

Having previously held senior positions at CBRE and Barclays Plc, Robert has deployed and managed over £1bn of real estate loans and plays a vital role in ensuring borrowers get the finance they need.

Debra Mitchell

Debra Mitchell

Legal Banking Director

Debra is a lawyer specialising in banking and finance. She advises the board on its loan facilities with its various lenders and has transacted a large number of deals for Seven both in-house and in private practice. Debra has completed facilities in excess of £200m since joining the legal team in 2017.

Prior to joining SevenCapital, Debra worked for Gowling, Shoosmiths and Eversheds Sutherland. Whilst at previous firms, Debra acted for all the main clearing banks and several top 100 FTSE companies, large property developers and pension funds.

Debra has also undertaken successful secondments at HSBC, Barclays and Volkswagen Financial Services.

Debra studied French, Spanish and Italian at university before becoming a lawyer.

Tim Lomax

Associate Director

Since beginning his career in real estate finance in 2015 Tim has held positions across transaction management, portfolio management and origination, previously working at Lloyds Banking Group, Bank of China and OakNorth Bank.

During this time Tim has worked on the funding of a wide range of deals encompassing commercial and residential investment and development properties, providing finance to individuals, SMEs and major international real estate companies.

Hannah joins us as an analyst after gaining experience at Bloomberg LP as a Fixed Income Analyst. Hannah also holds an Undergraduate degree from the University of York and a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford.


Georgie Crocker

Relationship Manager

Georgie joins as our Relationship Manager, having worked in structured finance for 4 years, advising on real estate and corporate transactions. She most recently worked for debt and equity advisory, Arc&Co., where she focused on origination and structuring of development and investment facilities across all real estate asset classes.
